Animoca Brands acquires mobile game maker Grease Monkey Games
Animoca Brands, the company focused on games and virtual worlds, announced Thursday morning that it has acquired Grease Monkey Games, a development studio that has produced several mobile-focused titles.
“Grease Monkey Games’ current management will continue to operate the company after the acquisition, working closely with Animoca Brands to align efforts around blockchain integration, fungible tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), play-to-win capabilities, synergy opportunities and product launches, particularly in relation to Animoca Brands’ REVV Motorsport ecosystem,” Animoca said in an emailed statement. Terms of the agreement were not immediately available.
To date, Australian company Grease Monkey Games has focused on motorsport-centric games, the 2015s Couple exhaustion and 2017 Torque drift. Both are free games that feature licensed versions of cars from popular automakers.
Earlier this year, Animoca raised hundreds of millions of dollars in fresh funding to fuel its game and metaverse strategies.
“Grease Monkey Games not only adds exciting titles to our catalog, but also significantly enhances our development capabilities,” said Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, of the deal.
