advice from a panel of experts [video]

A panel of experts talks about the ins and outs of NFT game design

Welcome to another one of our exclusive video advice panels. What’s it like working with Hollywood IPs with NFTs? How exactly did the NFT craze start and how do you design a game with NFTs in mind? Learn about these topics and more in this panel from PG Connects Digital #7 Online Conference, which provides insight and advice on NFT game design. The expert panel includes major NFT studios.

Create blockchain games from different perspectives

During the July 2021 webcast, we recorded Michael Zhang (Firefly Games), Robby Yung (Animoca Brands), Yan Ketelers (Venly), and Jona Derks (Block Bastards) talking. They discuss designing games with NFTs from their own personal experiences. The panel shares their valuable learnings over the years and how there is always something new to learn as blockchain games continue to evolve.

For example, what is the key ingredient when you want to design an NFT game? At the heart of it all is gameplay – what can people gain from your blockchain game? Users always want a good gaming experience at the end of the day. Luckily, there’s now more support for developers to make blockchain games, whether you’re an indie or triple-A developer.

The main features of games with NFT

The panel also talks about the success of Axie Infinity and what we can learn from it. When creating your own game, always ask yourself what your goal is. Do you want something monetization-only like NBA Topshot, or do you have an existing game that wants to embrace the play-to-earn model? These two will offer entirely different experiences to users.

Additionally, the panel shares insights into the two paths players can take to achieve what they want in a game: the grind path and the spend path. The panel also discusses interoperability as a user acquisition method.

Towards the end of the session, the panel highlights the importance of user-generated content in NFT games. The community ends up taking over thanks to the opening of these blockchain platforms. The challenge now is to simplify things for mainstream games, build blockchain game interoperability, and manage government regulations and taxes in the future.

This half-hour conference panel is for anyone interested in learning about the outlook for NFT games ten years from now. Will digital goods be normalized? Will blockchain games be the norm?
